In a perfect world, you would not be judged on your physical appearance, but rather your shining personality. Unfortunately, this world isn’t perfect and everyone you come into contact with is making snap judgments based on your looks. Because first impressions are, for lack of a better word, forever, you want to make sure that your style expresses the statement you want to make about yourself. If you are making any of the following fashion faux pas, it is time to change your ways.
Incorrect Fit
When it comes to fashion, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is to wear clothes that don’t fit. Many young women shop for what they want their body to look like, rather than what they actually look like in the moment. Instead of buying clothes that look great now, you may think “well, this will look great when I lose 5 pounds”. If it doesn’t look great now, don’t buy it. You will end up with bulges and rolls in all of the wrong places.
On the other hand, if you are uncomfortable with your weight, may think that loose-fitting or baggy clothes will camouflage the spots you are insecure about. It actually does the opposite. Wearing baggy clothes can add pounds and make you look heavier. Opt for clothes that are fitted and structured, but not too tight.
Trend Overload
While it is fun to follow trends and experiment with new styles, there is such a thing as trend overload. Trying to incorporate several different trends in one outfit makes you look tacky, rather than stylish. If you want to experiment with a trend, choose one at a time. Pair a wide leg trouser with a fitted blouse; wear a plain white t-shirt with high-waisted trousers; accentuate solids with a leopard print scarf. Remember, trends come and go, but style lasts forever.
Peek-a-Boo Undergarments
Panty lines are a major no-no. There is no reason that your underwear should be visible through your clothes. If they are, your panties may be too tight. If you know you’re wearing the right size and panty lines are still visible, then your pants are too tight.
Another major faux pas is visible bra straps. With so many different styles of bras on the market, there is no excuse for this. If you are wearing a tank top with thin straps, wear a strapless bra. If your bra strap falls down your shoulder and peeks out from your sleeve, it’s time to tighten your straps. Whatever you do, don’t go for the clear bra straps. You’re not fooling anyone!
Jewelry Overkill
When it comes to jewelry, there is such a thing as too much. Piling on 15 bangles, 7 rings and 3 necklaces distracts from your style, rather than complements it. Not to mention the irritation you will cause everyone around you every time you lift your hand and your bangles clink together.
Pick one statement piece, like a chunky bracelet or a pendant necklace, and then accent it with classic pieces, like a plain band ring and stud earrings.
